Agatha All Along: Witches to Take on the Road

Agatha All Along is the latest hit series from Marvel of Disney+ streaming. Here are some witchy takes on the characters to use as opponents in your game!

A Cast for Your Coven

You can make or break a coven with the personalities of its members. When facing witches in a spooky wood or a suburban house that looks quaint and affordable and not sinister in any way, it’s easy to forget sometimes that these “monsters” have needs and wants, too.

Ideally, these needs and wants are complimentary to each other but sometimes, a coven is thrown together because of a lack of other options, and the witches need to make do and learn to work together.

The entries below present two witches with personality, each with their own unique abilities to spread more chaos on the battlefield. Use these to create a dynamic coven for your PCs to face.

Check back tomorrow for two more witches from the coven!

She Who Demands Respect

A coven is meant to be a circle, but let’s be honest: every circle has a starting point, and some witches are simply born to lead. The coven’s de facto leader has the largest personality and a performance-like quality to her magic. Manipulation is key to her control over the coven, provided her fellow witches haven’t seen through her machinations and started calling her on her crap. Or turned on her after one too many times drawing on their power to make her stronger.

SHE WHO DEMANDS RESPECT            CR 10

Medium Humanoid

Armor Class 16 (elegant but badass gown)
Hit Points 120
Speed 30 ft, 20 ft fly (levitation)
Perception 16             Stealth 16
Resistant necrotic, poison | charmed, frightened
Senses darkvision 60 ft.

STRDEXCONINTWISCHA
+1+2+3+3+4+4

Silver Tongue. She Who Demands Respect has advantage on CHA (Deception) checks.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. She Who Demands Respect makes two Dagger attacks.

Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) slashing damage.

Power of Purple. Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (4d6 + 4) necrotic damage.

Spell Sapping. She Who Demands Respect forms an arcane link with a creature that has Spellcasting abilities. An unwilling creature must succeed on a DC 16 CON save or loses a spell slot (or use of a spell) from the circle of its highest uncast spell. Then She Who Demands Respect restores the use of one of her spells. She also cackles and acts horrified that it’s happening.

Spellcasting. She Who Demands Respect casts one of the following spells, using WIS as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 18).

At will: expeditious retreat, grave touch, unseen servant
3/day each: alter self, charm, fly, inflict wounds
2/day each: darkness, fear, hold
1/day each: banishment, story trap*

BONUS ACTIONS

Make Me Beautiful. She Who Demands Respect draws life essence from an ally. It loses 1d12 hit points and she gains the same number of temporary hit points.

Villainous Cackle. She Who Demands Respect lets out a long, half-mad cackle (played up for effect). All enemies in a 60-foot radius must succeed on a DC 14 CON save or take 2d6 force damage.

REACTIONS

Insulting Encouragement. When an ally she can see fails a save, She Who Demands Respect can make a cutting remark in their direction. That ally can reroll the save with an additional +1 bonus.

Self-Preservation. If She Who Demands Respect takes damage from a melee attack, she can disappear in a cloud of purple smoke, teleport up to 30 feet and reappear in an unoccupied space she can see.

She Who Sees Too Much

When one gazes into the beyond, the risk isn’t losing track of what’s real; it’s being unable to predict or turn off your third eye. This crone’s divination is so powerful that visions come to her suddenly and unbidden, causing her to trail off during a conversation or annoyingly ignore people around her. Having seen so much, she has little patience for repeated mistakes or anti-witch bigotry. Broomsticks and cackling, indeed.

SHE WHO SEES TOO MUCH                 CR 4

Medium Humanoid

Armor Class 12
Hit Points 55
Speed 30 ft
Perception 16             Stealth 12
Vulnerable fire
Resistant poison | stunned, surprised
Senses keensense 120 ft.

STRDEXCONINTWISCHA
+0+1+1+2+4+1

Hates a Stereotype. If any creature insults She Who Sees Too Much or witches in general, she has advantage on the next attack against that character.

Long-Lived. Due to her centuries of life, She Who Sees Too Much has advantage on Insight checks made to detect a lie and History checks made to determine a character’s background or backstory.

ACTIONS

Unarmed (Slap). Melee Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) bludgeoning damage. On a successful hit, She Who Sees Too Much can use Confusing Prediction as a reaction.

Confusing Prediction (Recharge 5–6). She Who Sees Too Much goes blank-faced and announces a dire, ultimately confusing prediction at one target within earshot. The target must succeed at a DC 14 WIS save or reach the worst possible conclusion about the prediction and become frightened.

Spellcasting. She Who Sees Too Much casts one of the following spells, using WIS as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 16).

At will: augury, detect evil and good, detect magic, vicious mockery
3/day each: bane, guiding bolt, pendulum, silence
2/day each: bestow curse, confusion
